What calls for a website redesign?

0 Comments 29 May 2009

Imagine a website that looks great, gains the trust of your consumers, makes them tell their friends about you, keeps them coming back again and again, and generates quality leads and business.

It’s a beautiful picture indeed. After all it is the reason why you have a website.

Just as clothes, cars and toothbrushes age over time, unfortunately so too does a website. Hence the question has been raised – If I already have an existing website why should I get a redesign? Well, depending on the current state of your website there can be more or less reasons to take this step.

If your website is tired and outdated chances are that it’s:

  • not as user friendly as it could be
  • most probably be putting off potential customers or clients
  • making your users lose trust in you, your business and or your brand
  • using old web technology excessively
  • making your website load slower than it should
  • not even work at all some some internet browsers
  • not optimised on-page for search engines

Each of these things can slowly push away potential customers.

For most, time is a precious commodity these days and when you’re dealing with internet savvy users, who want information and want it fast, you can’t afford for your website to load slowly. If a simple website doesn’t load in a couple of seconds you can almost bet that the user will hit the back button on their web browser and look for another website which has what they’re looking for.

If a website design is not user friendly many will flee too. Using clashing colours, constantly flashing banners, or navigation bars which is not easily identifiable and usable will very quickly turn off a user from your website.

I also mentioned that a website can make your users lose trust in you, your business or your brand. With a lot of business moving to the web today a website can either be a deal-breaker or deal-maker. You want to do all you can to gain the trust of your potential or existing customers.

All of these issues add up into a big pile of reasons to dislike and even potentially put off users from returning to your website again, and I’m sure you don’t want that!

If it’s been a while since your website was designed and developed and you believe that your website may be outdated a redesign will be beneficial on several levels. A redesign will:

  • make your website more user friendly
  • attract potential customers or clients
  • use new web technology
  • make your website load faster
  • work on all common internet web browsers
  • be on-page optimised for search engine

Each of these benefits will make your users more than happy to browse your website. They’ll enjoy coming back again and again, whether its for the simple task of quickly finding a phone number or email address or if they want to catch-up with you or your business and read your latest articles/news/or blog posts.
